Beer Can Island (Greer Island) is a secluded sandy hook at the northern tip of Longboat Key featuring 2,000 feet of excellent shelling. Weekends bring boating parties, music, swimming, fishing, kayaking, and of course…lots of beer. Due to beach erosion and a tangled forest of fallen Australian pines, the only means of getting to this strip of paradise on Longboat Key is by boat or walking from Whitney Beach at low tide.

Just remember to depart before sea waters rush in on the returning high tide. Boaters can access this peninsula at Longboat Pass. Created by tidal currents, Beer Can Island on Longboat Key is also referred to as a “hooked spit”. This white powdered sandbar affords boaters the ability to pull up on a perfectly beautiful beach for fishing, sunbathing and partying. It is accessible only by boat at Longboat Pass
.
The vacation rentals on Longboat Key are numerous.
